Welcome to the first episode of Science Matters. Today, I’m sharing an inspiring speech by Paul Hawken, a renowned author and environmental leader. Hawken's 2009 commencement address at the University of Portland is an open letter from Mother Earth to the next generation of leaders. This letter invites us to heal and restore our relationship with the natural environment.
In his speech, Hawken poignantly describes the complex science that sustains life on Earth. His vision inspires a collective identity rooted in our benefactor, planet Earth. Hawken is, figuratively speaking, a bridge builder - someone who reaches across political divisions to reconnect us to our shared humanity. In his work, Hawken consistently delivers a hopeful message backed by pragmatic solutions. His 2017 book Drawdown: The Most Comprehensive Plan Ever Proposed to Reverse Global Warming, ambitiously aims to fulfill its subtitles promise.
